Fact: If you look up nearly anything to do with Tahiti there will be many gorgeous Polynesian ladies. Most of them will have no tops on. Even on “Strict SafeSearch” mode. You’ll also find lots of pictures of The Rock with no top on.

This pattern is my latest. It’ll go into our new Tahiti room! I’m working on an entire collection and this hibiscus floral is the centerpiece.

In other news, I recorded a video version of my “easy vectorizing” tutorial. Subscribe to Prettified and watch what happens. Oh just you watch. Warning: this video definitely shows my dork side. Not dark. Dork.

When we first moved into our home, my mom took one look at the sunroom and declared, “Oh, here’s the baby’s room!” Ha! We have to laugh now because it’s not exactly baby domain. In the winter it’s freezing cold and in the summer it’s like a steam room. Also, we don’t have babies.

This sunroom of ours has been ignored and not taken too seriously. It’s been a place to keep laundry, hobby supplies, old computer parts, Mike’s undies, and other “junk”. Really, we didn’t know what to do with the space.

Until our upstairs tenants and friends transformed their sunroom into a fun little place they called “Cape Cod”. Seashells, umbrellas, rustic trinkets. What a magical little place to drink cocktails and share thoughts! Creating an environment can really make you able to bear the ccccold and the HOT. It’s amazing what color, pattern, and trinkets can do to a space.

So we decided to do the same ~ here’s our little Tahitian sunroom, in progress. It’s a space that’s only 12’x6’ but now feels so well utilized. (I’m working on a pattern collection I want to use in this room! As a coverlet for the walls and such.) And, so far, it’s a cheap transformation! (Under $50.)

Hibiscus fakes from Dollar Tree. Oh yes.

Yes, these Birds of Paradise are fake. $6.99 at JoAnn Fabrics. But I believe they make the room.

This Tiki lantern was $1 (from Dollar Tree). It fell apart as soon as I put it together, but that’s what a dollah will get you. I reinforced it with tape and it’s good as new.

Not my pattern. Just a simple tablecloth I had lying around. This is also our cat’s favorite spot to sun in the morning. (Is not sunny today.) Underneath is Mike’s old bachelor futon that was being hidden away in the attic.

A Pareo fabric on loan from our friend/tenant, Anna. So simple and pretty! This is what the Polynesians wear. I’d like to learn how to tie one on, baby. ;0 I’d wear it everyday, whilst sipping a cocktail. Naturally.

Tahiti would not be complete without Tiki mask guys. These were from my new favorite bargain shop ~ Tuesday Morning. $15 each.

We love having cocktails and chatting in our new room! I also love going back there to clear my mind after sitting at a computer all day. <3

I’m a surface designer. I put color, pattern and cute characters on just about everything. BUT myself. I have no tattoos. Is that weird? Should I get one? And, what could that possibly be? Being a Gemini, I’m always changing my focus and my taste for things. I’m a variety girl. Is there anything constant in my life that I’d be willing to etch into my skin? Hmmm…

These illustrations from Douglas Bicicleta of Brazil are some sexy rebel lady portraits. I’m in awe of his color palette, and, of course, use of pattern in his drawings.

OK, this is not a girl. It’s a cow. I liked the colors and topographical patterny look.

But this IS a rebel girl. AND a cow. With a tattoo. FTW!

Working on finishing up the pattern for the ladies over at All of Us {r}evolution! Should have the next pattern development steps up for you soon.

I’m also working on a secret project. Shhhh. It’s going to be something super helpful for artsy-types. That is all. :)

This is the a$$-kicking you may need right now. For free!

I heard about Do the Work from the lovely Marie Forleo. It’s full of insight on how to push past common creative roadblocks like ummm…naysayers, junk in your mind, comparison. Crap like that. Spoken plainly and with plenty of sass and spunk, Pressfield’s writing style reminds me of Seth Godin’s.

Marie recently interviewed Steven Pressfield and here’s where you can find the YouTube video.

Get the ebook while you can! It’s free on Kindle for a very limited time! (A $12.99 value!) Do eet, do eet, do eet!

I love how Eduardo Recife uses pretty pattern, random scribbles and weird collage imagery in his artwork.

Silly chubby babies.

The above color palette ~ turquoise , black, browns and pinks ~ is so striking. Definitely want to use this palette in the future.

Scribbles and dirt!

This book cover has freakshow all over it. Even though its just a book about normal everyday household animals. You know, like zebra, monkeys and butterflies.

Eduardo’s style reminds me of the Loved to Death store in San Francisco. Lots of dark curiosities ~ but with a sense of humor attached.

He’s also a talented font master. I’ve used his free fonts for years ~ they tend to be rather grungey and freakish. They make great display fonts.

Wouldn’t you know it, Great Circus is one of my favorites. :) (Not free though.)

Did you have a good weekend? I had the pleasure of going to a wedding at the same place my sweetheart and I hitched 7 years ago. Was nice to be able to enjoy that venue again! I even got to hoop on the dance floor for the “newlyweds” (they actually have been married for 2 years, but decided to celebrate officially).

Happy Monday! May your week rock. Hard.

Woot! My new business cards from Zazzle came out pretty snazzy. OK, yes, I had some low expectations (because, it’s, ya know, Zazzle), but, in the spirit of testing assumptions ~ for the price, quality and how quickly they arrived, I’d say this is a win.
