The “invasion” is nigh!
Beautiful buzzing, super cutie cute bulgey-eye bugs bigger than your thumb are crawling out of their dens in the ground to fly, sing and have the sex in the treetops. They’ve been sucking off tree roots and lolling around in the dirt for 17 years, just like juveniles do.
Magicicada Brood II will surface all along the Eastern Seaboard this summer from now thru June, I hear. The name is so… magical.
I haven’t seen any yet :( Our immediate area is mostly new construction, so we’ll have to travel out to Rock Creek Park or something to see them.
I wanted to create a print to celebrate cicadas! Its such a special time to see such unique bugs. I like bugs. I may be in the minority :/ Appreciate all creatures, I say.
